Why We Ask

Helping people discover meaning through deeper connection with God, themselves, and others.
Why We Ask: A Practical Guide to Purpose and Connection

Why We Ask explores a simple truth: We thrive when we connect. And connection begins with the questions we dare to ask—of God, of ourselves, and of one another.

Grounded in research and shaped by the Greatest Commandments, this book helps readers delve into the three “wells” from which meaning is drawn: loving God, loving ourselves, and loving others.

Inside, you’ll find:

  • Biblical insight presented alongside psychological research

  • Practical tools for building deeper relational and spiritual habits

  • Stories that illustrate how connection heals, transforms, and ignites purpose

  • Discussion questions for small groups, youth groups, and mentoring relationships

I am an Engineering Manager, by occupation. The only reason that’s relevant is that it informs how I see the world: as a series of problems to be solved. Some years ago, I realized I needed more friends and I embarked on a journey to solve that problem. I found more answers than I ever expected.

Now I write and speak about connection, meaning, and the questions that shape us. Blending biblical reflection with insights from psychology and neuroscience, I help people understand why we long for God, identity, and belonging—and what gets in the way.

I live in Oregon. I have three amazing boys, the most whimsical daughter-in-law alive, a delightful-but-sometimes-naughty Siberian Husky, and a beautiful and talented wife who has helped me understand the pure magic of great questions.
